Introduction about MacOs

MacOs is a computer operating system for Apple computers to be installed & operated on the Apple Macintosh series of computers. OS X has a modular design intended to make it easier to add new feature to the operating system in the future. It runs UNIX applications as well as older Mac applications. The heritage of what would become macos had originated at NeXT a company founded by Steve Jobs following his departure from Apple in 1985. There, the Unix — like NeXTSTEP operating system was developed & then launched in 1989. The meaning of MacOs is Macintosh operating system.

1.) OS X Beta: kodiak (version 10.)

OS X 10. Beta was released to the Public on September 13, 2000.

The Mac OS X Public Beta was an early beta version of Apple Computer’s Mac OS X operating system Cheetah. It is coder as “kodiak”.

Text edit, Preview, Mail, Quicktime player and Terminal are the features in OS X 10. Beta.

2.) OS X Cheetah (version 10.0)

Mac OS X 10.0 was released on March 24, 2001 for a price of US$129. Mac OS X version 10.0 or Cheetah is the first major release of Mac OS X , Apple’s desktop and server operating system.

It’s renamed OS X in 2012 and MacOs in 2016. OS X 10.0 was released on March 24, 2001( price of US$129). It was the successor of the Mac OS X Public Beta and the predecessor of Mac OS X 10.1. Mac OS X 10.0 was a radical departure from the classic Mac OS and it was answer for a next generation Macintosh operating system.

Supported Computers are Power Macintosh G3 Beige, G3 B&W, G4, G4 Cube, iMac, PowerBook G3, PowerBook G4, iBook. RAM is 128 MB. Hard Drive Space is 1,500 MB.

Os x 10.0 has following features.

Dock, OSFMIC 7.3, Terminal, Mail-email client, Address book, Text Edit, Pre-emptive multitasking, PDF Support, Aqua UI, Built on drawing, a Unix — like Operating system, openGL, Apple script, Support of carbon & cocoa APIS, Sherlock, protected memory.

3.)OS X Puma (version 10.1)

Mac OS X 10.1 is the second major release of Mac OS X , Apple’s desktop and server operating system. Version 10.1 was released on September 25, 2001. it code named puma. It was now named macOs.

Supported computers are Power Mac G3, Power Mac G4, Power Mac G4 Cube, iMac G3, eMac, PowerBook G3, PowerBook G4, ibook. RAM — 128MB. Hard Drive Space — 1.5 GB.

Performance enhancements, Esier CD & DVD burning, DVD playback support, More printer support, Faster 3D, Improved AppleScript, Improved filehandlig, Color Sync 4.0, Image capture are the features in puma.

3.) OS X Jaguar (version 10.2)

The operating system was released on August 23, 2002. This is the third major release of mac Os X, Apple desktop and server operating system. Now named macOs. Jaguar requested a powered G3 or G4 CPU and 128MB of RAM.

There are several versions relating to Jaguar such as 10.2.1, 10.2.2, 10.2.3, 10.2.4, 10.2.5, 10.2.6, 10.2.7, 10.2.8.

4.) OS X Panther (pinot) (version 10.3)

Panther was released on October 24, 2003. Panther had over 150 new features. Finder, Zip support, Faster user switching, Expose, TextEdit, X code developer tools, Preview, Quick time, Font Book, file vault, iChat AV, X11, Safari etc.

10.3.1, 10.3.2, 10.3.4, 10.3.5, 10.3.6, 10.3.7, 10.3.8, 10.39 are the several versions in Panther.

5.) OS X Tiger (merlot)( version 10.4)

Tiger was released to the Public on April 29, 2005. There are new features has Tiger, the are Spotlight, Safari, Dashboard, theme etc.

Tiger was the first version of Mac Os X to include the “Zoom” screen magnifier.

6.) OS X Leopard ( Version 10.5 )

Leopard was released on October 26,2007. This is the sixth major release of Mac Os X Apple’s desktop and Server operating system for Macintosh computers. Leopard is the final version of MacOs to support the PowerPC architecture as Snow Leopard functions solely on Intel based Macs.

Following features are included in Leopard. They are Automaton, Back to my Mac, Boot camp, Dashboard, Desktop, Stacks, Dictionary, Finder, Front Row, ical, ichat, Mail, Network filesharing, Parental controls, Photo Book, Podcast capture, Preview, Quick look, Safari, Spaces, Spotlight, Universal Access, User interface, Voice over.

Leopard contains over 300 changes and enhancements over its predecessor, Mac OS X Tiger, covering core operating system components as well as included applications and developer tools.

7.) OS X Snow ( version 10.6 )

Snow Leopard was publicly unveiled on June 8, 2009.

Apple states the following basic Snow Leopard system requirements are:

· Mac computer with an Intel processor (IA-32). “Yonah” processors such as Core Solo and Core Duo can run only 32-bit applications; later x86–64 architecture processors such as Core 2 Duo, Core i5 and i7 are also able to run 64-bit applications.

· 1 GB of RAM

· 5 GB of free disk space

· DVD drive (also accessible via Remote Disc) or external USB or FireWire DVD driver for installation.

8.) OS X Lion (Barola)(version 10.7)

OS X 10.7 Was released on July 24, 2003. The system requirements are x86–64 CPU, At least 2GB of memory, 7GB of available space etc. There are over 250 new or changed features in lion, including: Address Book, Air Drop, Emoji Support, full screen apps, Mac app store etc. There are versions from 10.7.1 to 10.7.5 in Lion.

9.) OS X Mountain Lion ( version 10.8)

OS X Mountain Lion was released on July 25, 2015.

The official system requirements of OS X 10.8 are 2GB RAM, 8GB available storage OS X 10.6.8. There are new and changed features are Notifications centre, Notes, Massages, Game centre etc. There are versions from 10.8.1 to 10.8.5 in Mountain Lion.

10.) OS X Mavericks (version 10.9)

This was released on October 22, 2013 worldwide. OS X Mavericks can run on any mac that can run OS X Mountain Lion; as with mountain Lion, 2GB of RAM, 8GB available storage and OS X 10.6.8.

There are versions from 10.9.1 to 10.9.5 in Mavericks.

11.) OS X Yosemite

(version 10.10)

OS X was released to manufacturing on October 16, 2014.

Following features are in Yosemite. Design, Continuity, Notification centre, Photos etc. 10.10.1, 10.10,2, 10.10.3, 10.10.4, 10.10.5 are the several versions in Yosemite.

12.) OS X Capitan

(version 10.11 El)

OS X Capitan is twelfth major release of OS X. It was released on September 30, 2015. It focuses mainly on performance, stability & security. Following features are in Capitan. Window management, Massage & mail, Maps, Notes, Safari, Spotlight, Photos etc. There are versions from 10.11.1 to 10.11.6 in Capitan.

13.) MacOs Sierra (version 10.12)

MacOs Sierra was released on September 20, 2016. MacOs Sierra requires at least 2GB of RAM & 8GB of storage space. It was the first version of the operating system issued under the June 2016 rebranding as macOs.

Following features are in the Sierra. Siri, iCloud Drive & optimized storage, Auto unlock and Universal clipboard, Apple file system etc. 10.12.1, 10.12.2, 10.12.3, 10.12.4, 10.12.5, 10.12.6 are several versions of Sierra.

14.) MacOs High Sierra (version 10.13)

MacOs High Sierra was released on September 25, 2017. The name “High Sierra” refers to the High Sierra region in California.

MacOs High Sierra requires at least RAM of 2GB and Available disk space of 14.3GB.

10.13.1, 10.13.2, 10.3.3, 10.13.4, 10.13.5, 10.13.6 are several versions of High Sierra.

15.) MacOs Mojave (Version 10.14)

MacOs Mojave was released on September 24, 2018. MacOs Mojave bring several iOs apps to the desktop operating system, including Apple news, voice memo & Home. MacOs Mojave requires at least 2GB of RAM as well as available disk space to upgrade from OS X El Capitan, macOS Sierra, or macOS High Sierra, or 18.5 GB of disk space to upgrade from OS X Yosemite and earlier releases. Some features are not available on all compatible models.

10.14.1, 10.14.2, 10.14.3, 10.14.4, 10.14.5, 10.14.6 are several versions of Mojave.

16.) MacOs Catalina (version 10.15)

MacOs Catalina released to the Public on October 7,2019. Catalina is the first version of MacOs to support only 64bit applications and the first to include Activation lock. Catalina requires 4GB of memory.

Catalina’s system in includes the following: Catalyst, System Extensions, Drivekit, Gatekeeper, Active lock, Dedicated system volume, Voice control etc. Catalina’s Application in includes the following features: iTunes, Find my, Reminders, Removed or changed components.

10.15.1, 10.15.2, 10.15.3, 10.15.4 are several versions of Catalina.
